Metering and monitoring

Here are the meters, current transformers and communication devices that show what a solar PV system produces and what the site consumes — the basis of monitoring, of self-consumption and of selling the surplus power.

The meters are Eastron — the single-phase SDM230 and the three-phase SDM630MCT, also with 250 A / 1 A current transformers — the Iskra MT174 three-phase CT-connected meter and the Deye DTSU666 three-phase smart meter with CTs. For Deye hybrid inverters there is the SUN SMART CT01 smart CT and the SUN-SMART-TX01 smart transmitter, and for measuring larger currents a RISHXMER 300/5 A class 0.5 current transformer. The communication is wired with FTP Cat5e cable, RJ45 connectors and couplers.

The smart meter tells the inverter how much power is going to the grid and how much is drawn from it. Modes such as Zero Export, where no surplus is fed into the grid, and the control of the battery depend on it. Without accurate metering a PV system works blind.

Power Design Engineering designs and builds monitoring systems, carries out remote diagnostics, periodic checks and measurements, and sets up inverters, controllers and communications — for solar systems in Kardzhali and across Bulgaria. Equipment prices are on request.
